Department of Lands Building, Sydney - Heritage Engineering

The Department of Lands building is a heritage-listed state government administrative building located in Bridge Street in Sydney.

Northrop has been engaged to structurally revitalise the building’s key heritage elements and to continue the building’s legacy as an iconic Sydney landmark. Our design seeks to work with the existing components, whether it be stabilising the timber lath and plaster ceilings, repairing the concrete jack arch ceilings, or remediating the external sandstone façade.

By making considered structural design solutions, we are improving the building’s structure but are also taking care not to compromise the heritage aesthetic and craftmanship from the early 1900s.

We are pleased to be a part of the project team tasked with preserving a piece of Sydney’s architectural history.
