Brighton Homes Arena

In development since late 2018, Brighton Homes Arena is now complete and becomes the new high-performance training and administration facility for the Brisbane Lions at Springfield, Queensland. The grounds were christened after hosting the AFLW Grand Final for the first time in November 2022, an appropriate debut for the first purpose built AFLW and women's field sport facility in Australia.

Adopting varying construction techniques to ensure both men's and women's AFL teams have the resources they require, the Northrop structural team provided alternatives for structural framing to provide cost effective details wherever possible. The club and community building has post tensioned, suspended slabs on a radial grid to reduce the volume of concrete and quantities of steel used throughout, which has improved cost and environment outcomes on the project.

Northrop worked closely with Hutchinson Builders and Populous to optimise the strict budget constraints within the program timeline, whilst also achieving the architectural intent of replicating the grandstand feel of the Fitzroy Football Club’s Brunswick Street oval.

The precinct includes an indoor training and administration facility, childcare centre, health and gymnasium amenities and a 600-seat grandstand with integrated Bears and Fitzroy logos and fig trees propagated from trees in Fitzroy's Carlton Gardens.
