Northrop was recognised across the Energy sector at the 2010 Consult Australia Awards for Excellence by winning a silver award of commendation which was presented on December 3rd 2010 in Melbourne.
Consult Australia is the main industry association representing both large and small consulting engineering practices with offices across Australia.
Project entries in 2010 ranged in size and complexity from major infrastructure, transport and building projects to overseas aid and climate change evaluations and demonstrated the extent to which local and international governments, businesses and communities have come to rely on and expect world class standards of professional services delivery from Australia's engineering consulting industry.
Northrop Engineers award was for the design and installation of a 125kW peak lopping natural gas fired generator set at the newly opened Barrandi Centre at 16 Marcus Clarke Street, Civic, ACT.
The project assisted in the building meeting the requirements of the Green Building Council GreenStar-Office Design rating of 5 stars and an Australian Building Greenhouse Rating (ABGR) of 4.5 stars.
Northrop Engineers worked closely with the builder, Bovis Lend Lease and the building owners NDH Properties to ensure all elements were well integrated and the peak lopping set installation met the exacting and evolving requirements of ActewAGL for equipment operating in parallel with their electricity distribution network.
The building is currently occupied by the National Health and Medical Research Council and GHD Pty Ltd.
